Fishing report – August 28 2015

With the departure of the heat and humidity we should see some cooling of the area rivers. The Kennebago has started to cool and was 65 degrees this morning. Usually all the rivers from the Rapid to the upper Magalloway stay about the same temp while the lower Magalloway stays cooler but right now the Mag. is at 66-68 degrees. Last week during the hot spell I took some fisherman to the Rapid and they still caught enough Salmon to call it a success. All the area waters except the Mag. are at season low levels. This low water warms up and cools down quickly so there can be a large temp. range during the day so hit the water early for best results. Trout should be stacking up at the mouths of river waiting to start the spawning run with the next good rain. Nymphs continue to be the way to success on the Mag. and Rapid although some fisherman did well with streamers this week. There is no rafting release this week end on the Mag..I don’t know about you but I am starting to get excited about September fishing as cooler mornings and a touch of color can be seen on the Swamp Maples. How about you?
