Quill Gordon

Posted on May 01 2014

This month’s fly is the Quill Gordon. The Quill Gordon was created by Theodore Gordon from the Catskill region of New York. Gordon is considered the father of dry fly fishing in America. The Quill Gordon was one of the first dry flies in a world of wet flies. Every time I tie them I wonder how someone came up with the idea of using a stripped peacock quill for the body. This is a fun fly to tie and beautiful fly to look at. To this day it remains one of the most effective mayfly imitations you can use.

thread - grey or black
