A.W. Ballou of Litchfield Maine has been credited with creating the Ballou Special, considered the very first marabou streamer. Meant to imitate smelt at the mouth of the Songo River in Sebago Lake, this popular fly has certainly stood the test of time, having been created over 100 years ago in 1921.
