Here at the Rangeley Region Sports Shop all our flies are tied in Maine and New Hampshire. Many are tied right here at the shop. The rest are split up among a talented group of tiers that are assigned certain patterns to contribute to the effort. Our fly selection is made up of patterns that I have found effective on our rivers and lakes while guiding fisherman in the region for the last 20 plus years. Many of our casting streamers were created in the Rangeley region, designed to copy the many variations of the smelt which is our most important bait fish in the area lakes. You can depend on our dry flies and nymphs to imitate the bugs that hatch on our waters and to entice the brookies to take a bite. If you ever have any questions about which flies to buy in preparation for your trip you are welcome to write or call the shop for advice. All our flies are tied with high quality materials and care so that they will stay together to do the job that they were created for.
A black smelt pattern created by Bud Wilcox. Bud was a well known guide and tier in the Rangeley region.
