Wapsi Large Bucktails

  Bucktails are a natural tying material that has a long history of use in fly tying.  The Bucktail is a vary versatile source of hair that can be used in both streamers and dry flies. Streamers tyed with bucktail hair are common in both freshwater and saltwater flies. Common flies tyed with bucktail of many colors include the Mickey Finn and Black Nose Dace in freshwater and is a basic ingredient in a majority of salt water patterns including the Clouser Minnow and Gotcha. Bucktail hair can be very straight to wavy in texture, while the straightest hair is best for some fly patterns, both textures are usable.  The "sweet spot" on a bucktail is the  top 2/3rds toward the tip. This hair is best to use because it has less flair when tied to the fly with the thread.
