Serving Anglers Since 1945
Rangeley Region Fishing Report, May 7 2026
Things are just getting started here in the Rangeley area. Ice went out on the last of the lakes on April 28th and most of the lakes are full except for Richardson and Aziscohos and the tailwaters are still at pre-run-off levels, but this could change at any time. Fish are starting to be caught at the usual places. The Magalloway has trout up to Mailbox Pool and the suckers have arrived for their annual spawning event. The dirt roads are passable for trucks but not in the best shape. There are no hatches yet so you will be using nymphs or streamers. Smelt are still being looked for so have some white, smelty looking patterns with you, using a heavier leader than used for nymphs. It is still pretty chilly up here so bring the right clothing along.Â
