Rangeley Region Fishing Report - Sept. 10 2026

Hello from the mountains. Things are looking pretty good going into this weekend with a fresh rainfall of .4 inches and perfect weather in the forecast. The rivers and streams are still low but water temps are ideal for moving fish into the usual places that you would find them.  Fish were at Steep Bank on the Kennebago on Sept. 2nd which is earlier then I have seen in a while. The Rapid and the Mag are in good shape with good flows and lower temps in the mid 60's. This time of year the freestones get colder than the Mag so it isn't really your best bet but should certainly be tried if you are in the area anyway. We have been answering the "what to use" question many times a day and the answer is everything.  Midges and attractor dries like wulffs and stimulators. Midges are an important part of the fall fishing game both dry and subsurface. Soft hackle wet flies of all colors with some in size 18 and 20.  Streamers in red, orange, yellow and white are good. Leeches are good fished deep and slow. Ants and grasshoppers complete the fall fly list. Like I said " everything". Have fun and enjoy the miracle of fall fishing.
