Fishing Report July 7 2016

The latest cool down began today. After 3 days of heat the weather has turned cool and unsettled. On the Magalloway there have been large stonefly hatches. Stones and tan caddis are the bugs to copy for the rest of the month. A good way to get a look at the caddis nymph is to pick up branches and wood from the river bottom. You can see the small caddis worms crawling around. On the Rapid the alder flies are in full swing. The water temps are between 65 and 70 and a good mixture of Brookies and Salmon to be caught on the surface. The upper Magalloway and Kennebago are were at 70 degrees yesterday but I would expect that to change after our latest cool down is complete. The Kennebago is very low, at the same level it would be at in the end of the summer. The drakes are hatching on Rangeley Lake and many other lakes and ponds in the area. They are running high water on the Mag again this week end and will on the Rapid starting next week end. Till next week..
