The hot weather of this past week has left. We received only 0.3 inches of rain so it remains very dry. The Magalloway River is in the 62-64 degree range with lots of trout and salmon. The bugs on the Mag are tan caddis size 14-16 and big stoneflies. The freestone rivers and streams are low but should have cool enough water so you can find many small brookies. Look in the pools below water falls and under the deeper cut banks. My favorite flies for the smaller trout in the small water are the rusty klink and other small parachute style flies. I take along a Golden Retriever streamer in case I have to go subsurface. Hit the waters early and late. There is nothing like being in the woods on a cool summer morning stalking wild brookies. Hope you find your adventure this week end.
