We are in the middle of our first warm up of the summer. Lake levels are high and river levels are normal. Water temps are on the high side near 70 degrees. Welcome to the summer weather roller coaster. A couple of days of hot are usually followed by a cool down. The night time air temps are the most important. It can be hot during the day if it stays in the 50 degree area at night. Many times it can be 5 to 6 degrees cooler in the woods than in town. The good news is that the warm weather has brought out the drakes on the area lakes and ponds. Kennebago has had drakes since the weekend. The alder flies are not at the Rapid yet but the stoneflies are there in numbers. The Magalloway and headwaters will stay the coolest and are the places to fish. Caddis and stoneflies are the bugs that are around on the rivers. The blackflies and mosquito are still pretty bad so be prepared.
