After a wet summer we are now in the middle of a dry spell with sunny days and cool nights. Morning lows around 40 degrees have kept the water temps low, mostly in the 58-65 degree range. Some spawning fish have moved up the rivers but most are still holding off at the mouths of the rivers. Water levels are dropping daily with no rain in sight. The tailwaters like the Magalloway and Rapid might be the place to fish as the flows stay constant,as long as the water temps stay in the low to mid 60's. Any type of fly can work at any time in the fall. Today I had reports of fish being caught on olive buggers and stimulators in the same pool where the fish were rising to small midges. That is the challenge of fall fishing.
