fall fishing in rangeley

Rangeley Region Fishing Report - August 30 2025

As the summer season comes to an end and fall fishing is right around the corner we find the region with very low water. Our rivers and streams are very low, too low to hold fish in many places. After a long period of hot and dry weather we are now experiencing more seasonable days and nights. Water temps are great with the freestones in the 58-60 degree range. The Magalloway is in the 60 - 66 degree range. The Kennebago is the lowest I have ever seen it and last week the flow dipped below the minimum allowed flow and they had to let water go from the lake to bring it up.  Fish will usually move up the river in the first of Sept. when water temps go down and flow improves.  Hopefully our new weather pattern will continue and slowly restore the rivers so that the fish and fishermen are happy.
