Rangeley Region Fishing Report - May 9 2025

It is a typical start to the month of May here in the region. Spring rains and the last of the melting snow as left our area lakes and rivers full of water. The tailwaters are all at levels that are hard to fish safely. That said, there are fish being caught along the edges and in the back eddies. The smelt are still spawning and smelt pattern streamers are working well. The mouths of brooks and streams running into the larger lakes are the places to check out. Suckers are starting to spawn in the usual places giving the fishermen another way to catch fish. Water temps are in the 45-48 degree range and will not change much until we get some sun and warmer temps. Looking ahead we are expecting another good shot of rain over the weekend so water levels will stay high or go higher. The rain is a blessing in the big picture so have patience and enjoy the outdoors. At least the black flies aren't here yet.
