Rangeley region Fishing Report - May 16 2025

Our world has changed since last week's report. The temps have been in the 70's this week and the trees now have leaves on them and the woods are green. The Rangeley and Magalloway rivers have dropped to good levels and the freestone rivers are dropping also. Water temps are in the 50 - 55 degree range. The sucker spawn is in full swing and mayflies are just starting to show up in the usual places. Fish are still feeding on smelt if you like to fish streamers, many caught yesterday had smelt in their mouths. The cooler weather forecasted for the weekend may stop the bug activity temporarily. Best mayfly patterns, gray and rusty klinks, parachute adams, parachute hares ear, hendricksons and red quills. Sub surface wet flies, guides choice, soft hackle hares ear, flash back pheasant tail.

Till next time,

Brett
