This month’s fly is the
WD-50. I have fished this small nymph for a number of years and have come to depend on it when the fish get smart and picky. This pattern is a variation of the WD-40 which was created by Mark Engler of Colorado in 1982. It imitates Midges or Blue Winged Olive emergers. The letters WD stand for Wood Duck, which is the material used for the tail and wing case. The WD-50 variation was created by Carl Stouts. He added a flashy wing case and a wing stub to give it a new look.
