CDC Deer Hair Caddis
This month's fly is the CDC Deer Hair Caddis. This dry fly was created by Hans Weilenmann, a Dutch fly tyer. It uses a CDC feather to improve the floating ability of the standard deer hair caddis. The CDC also leaves an impression on the water that appears very buggy to fish.
Hook - Dry fly
Thread - Gray, 16/0 Veevus
Body - One long natural CDC feather wrapped up the shank
Wing - short and fine deer hair.
I first used this fly this summer on small backcountry Brookies. The first time I tried the fly it had been a very slow morning but started catching fish with the first cast. It worked well just as it came to the end of a swing and skipped along the surface.
