Quimby Caddis

This month's fly is the Quimby Caddis created by Steve Marsters who lives on Quimby which is a small pond in the woods half way between Rangeley and Oquossoc. The pattern copies a large stillwater caddis that hatches on the pond starting in the middle of June every summer. This large caddis is very unique in the way that it emerges and flies away. After emerging from its shuck it starts spinning around on the surface,then takes a couple of bounces before it makes its escape. As you can imagine this ritual creates quite a disturbance on the water which serves to attract the trout to their next meal.

Quimby Pond is a shallow, spring fed pond known for growing large brook trout. It is fly fishing only with no motorboats allowed.
