A couple weeks ago I was contacted by Matt Supinski of Michigan with the idea of organizing a special seminar in Rangeley featuring our Landlocked Atlantic Salmon and it's history and relation to the Atlantic Salmon. Matt is an active fishing guide, author, and respected speaker. We decided to hold the seminar on the weekend of June 29 - 30. It will be hosted by the Rangeley Inn and all the details can be seen right here. You can also participate without staying at the Inn for the cost of $250. For a long time I have felt there should be more events in town focusing on the role that fishing has played in our area's tradition and economy. Seminars like this are a good opportunity to gather, learn, and celebrate the rich history that we are part of. The Landlocked Atlantic is worthy of our recognition and celebration. I have often said while it's the Brook Trout that brings the fisherman to our waters it is the Salmon that brings them back. For more information or to sign up contact us at the shop or call the Inn. Here is the schedule for the two day event.
The weekend long event will also be featuring local Rangeley and Maine fly fishing experts and talent like:
Brett and Sue Damm of Rangeley Sport/Fly Shop and Guide Service
Selene “of Maine” Frohmberg, heir to the Carrie Stevens/Gray Ghost streamer tying tradition
Bill Pierce of the Rangeley Outdoor Sporting Heritage Historical Museum
Greg Burchstead, noted Maine fly fishing aficionado
Chef Joanna Farrar, owner of Classic-Provisions Catering, who will be preparing a Gourmet Atlantic Salmon 4 course dinner at the Inn Saturday night open to the public, featuring Chef Supinski’s classic French recipes from the NEXUS book, alongside Farrar’s extremely talented culinary passion, and local Rangeley musical talent.
Saturday Supinski will offer seminars and clinics on “Into the Mind of Atlantic and Landlocked salmon”, techniques, behavior, science, history, evolution from North America and around the world, along with fly tying with the other creative celebrity participants and authors on Historical perspectives and Maine Landlocked tradition.
Sunday will be a daylong “boots in the water” stream side fly fishing clinic on the famous Magalloway River with Matt and expert staff and participants, covering all aspects of fly fishing for Landlocked Atlantic Salmon.
