Not all Fly Tying Thread is the Same

After collecting all of your materials, successfully following a pattern, and finally tying it all together, it would be a shame if it fell apart as soon as it hit the water. So when choosing the right thread for the job, it is important to remember that not all fly tying thread is the same.

When a new tier starts learning how to create fishing flies not much thought goes into the different types of thread and their different uses but as you grow in your skill level you quickly discover that not all thread is the same. 

If crucial, a good fly pattern will inform you whether you should choose either round or flat thread.

    Other Key factors to consider:

    • Thread strength
    • Matching the thread diameter to the size hook you are tying the fly on. (Smaller thread is crucial in keeping the fly head small and neat).

    Some EXAMPLES of the variations of fly tying thread we carry:
