Rangeley Region Fishing Report - May 21, 2026

After a couple warm days the week end weather looks to be on the cool side. The short warm spell brought out the leaves and the first mayflies. Hatches still have not started  very strong and will linger a bit until some warmer days and nights. Flows on the tailwaters have increased  except for Middle Dam. Water temps are in the 48-52 degree range in the mornings. I think the sucker spawn is over as the crowds seem to have disappeared from # 10 bridge, this is good news for the trout that have survived the battle.  Flows on the freestone rivers are at normal May levels but dropping slowly. Bugs to imitate both hatching and subsurface are Blue Quills, Hendrickson, March Brown. Caddis larva subsurface but not flying around for awhile.
