Fishing Report - July 26 2018
We received 1.4 inches of rain here last night and today. This time it was a slow but steady rain that hopefully doesn't blow the rivers out. The Kennebago was 68 degrees this evening and at a great flow for this time of the summer. There are a few salmon scattered around in the pools but it's hard fishing. It is possible that more will move up with any flow increase. The Magalloway is running at 600 with water temps in the 60-67 degree range. The Rapid is slow this time of summer as water temps stay in the 70 degree range but you can usually nymph up a salmon or two. The headwaters are sometimes 8-10 degrees cooler but I would expect the flow to be a little high for a day or two. Best flies for small water are medium to small dries like the Klinkhamer or deer hair caddis. Nymphs on the Mag. are small BWO and tan caddis. Big stones are still a good bet in the pocket water. Midges will start to become important as a food source soon. Fisherman should take advantage of our good summer flows this week end. The Rapid is rafting this weekend.
