Rangeley Region Fishing Report - May 17 2024

The weather has slowly been warming this week with air temps in the 60's and water temps in the 50's. Flows are at normal spring time levels. The first mayflies are in the air but the fish haven't been feeding on them heavy yet. We have had the most success this week alternating between mayfly nymphs and big white streamers. The sucker spawn is happening in all the usual places but the smelt feed is over. The tailwaters are at fishable flows now with the Rapid at 800 cfs. This should leave some good fish numbers in the river. Mayfly nymphs will be active subsurface as they get ready to hatch. A pheasant tail nymph placed under a Pat's rubberleg makes a great nymph combo. The roads are in fair shape and the blackflies are starting to come out. Have a fun week end.
