Rangeley Region Fishing Report - Sept. 23 2023

After heavy rain that left the rivers unfishable, current levels are high but fishable. Water temps are in the low 50's in the morning. I am sure that the very high water has moved the spawning fish up to where they want to be. The two things I tell people they should do when fishing in the fall are be ready to change methods and locations often. There can be changes during the course of the day also. As water temps rise due to the warming sun fish might take flies on the surface toward evening. If it was a warm night they might take emergers in the morning. My routine when I get to a pool  is fish dries first. This doesn't spook the fish as much as swinging a big streamer. Work down the water column and use streamers last. There is heavy logging and truck traffic on the west end of the Greentop road. This is a very narrow section of road and I would suggest taking the Parmachenee road to get to # 10 bridge area.  They don't work on week ends.
