This week has seen some real changes as summer has finally come upon us here in the Rangeley region. The summer weather is warming the water and bringing bugs and fish back into the rivers. The sucker spawn should be in full swing soon as the water temps rise. The smelt are still running in some places but that should be over soon. The smelt is the main forage food for our trout and salmon and is still a good streamer imitation at any time. I made the rounds today and found the Magalloway at 44 degrees, Kennebago at 51 to 54, Rangeley was 58 with mayflies around. Good flies for mayflies are Klinkhamers and parachutes like Adams, BWO's and Mr. Rapidan. Things should really start happening now so get ready and make the drive. Dirt roads are dry and passable. The blackflies are out.
