Beadhead Pheasant Tail Nymph - Fly of the Month

Posted on October 08 2015

Beadhead pheasant tail nymph super productive nymph fly
This months fly is the Beadhead Pheasant Tail Nymph. I do not think that any nymph has caught more fish for me over the years than this simple pattern. The pattern was originated by Frank Sawyer of  England but modified to what you see here as the American style. You can do all kinds of things to this fly to change its look. Change the bead, add a CDC collar, add flash and much more.

Hook - 2x nymph size 8-20
Thread - brown
Tail - Pheasant Tail fibers
Abdomen - Pheasant Tail fibers
Thorax - peacock herl
Rib - copper wire
Wing case - Pheasant Tail fibers
