This month’s fly is the flying ant. I got this pattern from Randall Kaufmann’s book Tying Dry Flies. This fly isn’t used very much, but when you need it you should have it. In this area that is usually around the end of May when we get our first hot weather of the summer. It’s on these first days of summer when these big flying ants hatch from the woods and fall into the water.
