The AFFTA (American Fly Fishing Trade Association), estimates that the fly-fishing industry adds about 3.5 million plastic containers to the environment each year from retail fly sales alone! When we first bought the fly shop, we switched to plastic boxes with attached lids, so at least we would be cutting back on the amount of possible trash along our rivers and streams. Now we are transitioning to paper boxes made from recycled materials. We are joining many other retailers across the country who hope to eliminate a large amount of useless waste.
The big issue are the worm fishermen that leave their worm containers everywhere!!!
Great idea. Plastic is a forever product. Good for many things, but not things that will come out of the container once and never return. Paper is perfect as long as it is substantial enough to make the trip until opened. You are to be commended.
Great idea, more retailers should figure out ways to cut down on the use of plastics. I commend you on leading the way to help save our planet.
