fletchers super at a maine fly shop

The "Fletcher's Super" Streamer Fly

This is the first fly pattern in this blog series. The Fletcher Super recipe was listed in the 1947 Fletcher's Fly Shop mail order catalog.  I assume it was named by George, the founder of our shop. I also guess it was a super fly!  Try it yourself!  I have no history on it's beginnings and the only other reference that I can find to it is in the book Fish Flies by Terry Hellekson. I tied this sample according to the recipe in the catalog minus the jungle cock eye.

Tail - Scarlet duck quill

Ribbing - Silver Tinsel

Body - Yellow Chenille

Wing - White bucktail, Green bucktail, topped by two blue saddle hackles

Eye - Jungle cock

Hackle - Yellow

Rick,
The bucktail is supposed to be under the blue feather.

In the photo, the bucktail appears to be on top of the blue saddles. Is that the case or is the bucktail tied in first and the saddles nestled into it?
Nice looking fly!

Brett,
Looking forward to the blog postings on the fly patterns. PS. The book on Herbie Welch you sent is excellent. Have a great 2020.
