A Lifetime of Tying Begins - by Sue

Brett has been tying for the shop for about 20 years now.  (He even tied flies for the previous owner.) He’s also tied them for other fly shops, Grant’s Camps, and various mom & pop shops.  So what started the engine of this tying machine?  Polly Damon. 

     When Brett was young his family vacationed and fished in the Rangeley area.  They always visited the House of Tall Tales to buy flies and one lucky day he received his first tying lesson from the proprietor, Polly Damon. It’s still a fond memory for him - entering that small shop and being able to sit down at the tiny tying bench under the north window and learning to tie a Wooly Worm.  Recently Scott Biron gave us this photo of Polly and her family in front of their Oquossoc shop.  Side note:  the picture makes our shop look big!         -  by Sue

What a magical time for the area , Polly Damon being one of the Fly Tying Greats of the Day in such a humble fashion , the few of us that were lucky enough to sit in front of her vise for a tying lesson remember the moments vividly and will forever cherish , the fly bins at the House of TT seemed like they were always full , Polly was a true Master of the Tye , and a truly sincere and wonderful friend …
