Fishing Report – July 2, 2013

July 3, 2013

We are once again in a high water situation here in the Rangeley area. I checked alot of rivers today with some sports and found them all high and dirty in some cases. The worst of the rain seems to be over and I would expect to see things back to normal by the week-end. Some hot, summer weather is on the way so get out and do some fishing before the water temps get to warm. The fish do not like rising water levels and will not be active until it recedes, always fish the falling water. You should be using small, size 16-18 caddis and big stonefly imitations as we slip into the dog days of summer. Nymphs are always a good way to go but be thinking small. The drake hatches have been good on the lakes that have those large mayflies. I am getting great reports from Kennebago Lake,we even had a few hexes on the store front this morning. As summer warms up look for high elevation ponds and the colder headwaters of rivers and streams. Also you can carefully search along the banks of the rivers and often find where springs are seeping cold water into the system. These cold seeps are where fish will hang out during the hot summer time. So get out there in the woods and enjoy this awesome time of year but don’t forget the bug dope.
