It was a summer day here in the mountains. All the area lakes should be free of ice by the week end. There was still ice in Greenvale cove at sunset but they were trolling the open water all day. The smelt have been running in some places this week. The Rapid and Magalloway rivers are very low until the lakes fill up. Water temp on every river I checked was right around 40 degrees. Last year we didn't reach 40 until the first of May according to my records so everything going forward will probably be ahead of usual. There are lots of Green Caddis worms and small Mayfly nymphs crawling around on the river bottoms. These imitations and bright attractor nymphs should be fished deep to get a fishes attention. Area roads seem to be in good shape for traffic just remember to stay in the middle as the shoulders can be soft in the spring. Feel free to call if you have any questions.
