We are experiencing our hottest weather of the season here in the previously cool mountains. We received upwards of 2 1/2 inches of rain so far this week and thunder storms could bring additional water. On Wednesday morning all the freestone rivers were high and dirty and when I checked today the water had gone up even more. Water temps are going up with the warmer nights but should cool off as the temps relax after the week end. Water temps can cool down by 6-10 degrees over night so make sure you get an early start and quit when you warm up too much. The farther up the water shed you go the colder the water gets. Brookies are staying in many waters that they usually would have left by now due to the good flows. The Magalloway has been fishing well when the weather is suitable with an abundance of caddis and stoneflies. Upper Dam is not fishing well due to high lake levels in Richardson Lake which has backed up into the pool. The big Hex mayflies are showing up with this warm summer weather. It is looking to be a great summer fishing season for those who pay attention to the weather cycles and fish when they can.
Till next time,
Brett
