Rangeley Region Fishing Report - July 29, 2022

After some more rain the water levels remain good. While the warm weather has kept the larger rivers in the 68 to 70 degree range the smaller water cools down nicely over night. I took a trip yesterday and found water temps ranging from 72 to 54 degrees. The Magalloway Temps are from 60 to 67 from top to bottom. Caddis and stoneflies remain the bugs to fish on that river. Small waters are where to explore during the dog days of summer. Streams close to town include Cascade and Long Pond Stream and South Bog Stream. Medium size attractors and maybe a small beadhead dropper are all you need. Don't forget terrestrials, grasshoppers and ants. I watched bubble bees working a patch of milkweed the other day on the edge of a stream. These bees would sometimes fall in the water and the trout were eating them. You can observe some real cool stuff out there when you are fishing.

Till next time,

Brett
